چکیده

Electroencephalograms (EEGs) are brain waves, which are recorded using scalp electrodes. Generally, signal attenuate on recording and amplitude of the evoked potentials (EPs) are low when merged with the base brain waves. Therefore, mathematical tools are needed to analysis the time series (EEGs) to discover the EPs in the base EEGs. This paper reviews spectral analysis based on periodic amplitude analysis (PAA), wavelet transform (WT), fast Fourier transform (FFT), and fractal dimension (FD) of EEGs to predict the evoked potentials. © 2006 Elsevier Inc. Reliability of Motor Evoked Potentials Induced by Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation: The Effects of Initial Motor Evoked Potentials Removal

Introduction: Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a useful tool for assessment of corticospinal excitability (CSE) changes in both healthy individuals and patients with brain disorders. The usefulness of TMS-elicited motor evoked potentials (MEPs) for the assessment of CSE in a clinical context depends on their intra-and inter-session reliability. This study aimed to evaluate if removal ...

New Paradigms for Brain Computer Interface Based on SSVEP

A Brain Computer Interface (BCI) creates a new communication channels for disabled peoples, the classical way of steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP) based on (BCI) was focusing on multi-frequency and phases. In this study a novel high-speed SSVEP based on BCI, was implemented a new paradigms of SSVEP, which induced by irregular flickering with phase-tagged toward brain activity respons...

Attenuation of Motor Evoked Potentials Following Prone Positioning

Background and Importance Of outmost importance for the success of neurosurgical operations is proper patient positioning. This is particularly the case for operations conducted in the prone position, which is associated with several potential complications. Case presentation Here we report the case of a 52 years old male patient who underwent endoscopic discectomy for an L5-S1 herniated dis...

Possible Long Term Effects of Chemical Warfare Using Visual Evoked Potentials

Some studies have already addressed the effects of occupational organic solvent exposure on the visually evoked potentials (VEPs). Visual system is an important target for Sulphur Mustard (SM) toxicity. A number of Iranian victims of Sulphur Mustard (SM) agent were apprehensive about the delay effect of SM on their vision and a possible delay effect of SM on their visual cortex. This investigat...

Inter-pulse Interval Affects the Size of Single-pulse TMS-induced Motor Evoked Potentials: a Reliability Study

Introduction: Measuring the size of motor evoked potentials (MEPs) induced by transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is an investigational technique to show the level of corticospinal excitability however, some of the fundamental methodological aspects of TMS (such as the effects of inter-pulse intervals (IPI) on MEP size) are not fully understood, this issue raises concerns about the re...
